OPENING RECEPTION: AUG 23 / 4pm - 7pm
Artistry invites you to step into a world where buildings walk, dogs howl from chimney stacks, and houses drift across star-filled skies. In their latest exhibition, painter Bruce Nygren invites viewers to explore a dreamlike landscape rich with visual metaphor, emotion, and curiosity.
Described by the artist as “visual poems,” the paintings bring together unexpected juxtapositions—giant businessmen-as-buildings, floating homes in deep space, octopuses surrounded by glowing bulbs—each painting an open-ended story. “I just want to invent a little mystery,” says Nygren. “Most of my paintings pose a question.” These images hint at larger themes—environmental concerns, memory, longing, and the universal search for home—while leaving room for personal interpretation.
While whimsical and surreal, the work is grounded in technical mastery and a deep sense of atmosphere. Influenced by American icons like George Inness, Winslow Homer, and Edward Hopper, Nygren crafts believable environments for these fantastical scenes using the flexible richness of oil on canvas.
