Music, Lyrics and Book by John Cal
Originally directed by and developed with Rebecca Rizzio
Based on a true story and the book "Philly"
by Kevin Coughlin and John Cal
An original musical that combines high-stakes Broadway storytelling with the timeless spirit of classic rock, set against the backdrop of 1979 Yonkers, NY. Philly and the Dreamer follows Johnny, an optimistic songwriter chasing the big time, and Phyllis, the extraordinary voice who changes everything. What starts out as “all-about-the-music” becomes terribly complicated for everyone. At a time when all seems to be lost, it’s the strength of family, friends, and the unlikely legacy of one good-hearted, karma-believing mobster that triumphantly emerges to save the day.
