Responding to the chaos and upheavals of current affairs and climate urgencies,  At The Edge of Our Lawns turns towards the sky — a distinctive blend of personal memory, ecology, art, and design that reverences the grace of birds and the wonder of insects. With detailed, layered watercolors and drawings, written observation, story, and science, Peterson’s art becomes a visual meditation on the life that continues at the margins of our landscapes, bringing attention to our human desire to find connection and the peace of wild things. 

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Visual artist and writer, Kristin Maija Peterson, creates intimate, detailed watercolors and drawings of the everyday, ordinary, yet extraordinary facets she finds in nature. She earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art, art history, and biology from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1984. After spending 25+ years as a graphic designer while painting in the margins, Kristin began exhibiting in group juried shows in 2016. In 2019, she attended the University of St. Catherine’s Women’s Art Institute. A milestone birthday and the pandemic served as catalysts for her transition to a full-time artist in 2020, allowing her to show in regional group shows and produce solo exhibitions. Kristin’s work is project-based, developing bodies of work focused on central environmental and botanical themes, research, observations, science, and stories.
