Opening Reception: Saturday, September 7 at 10:00am
Artist Talk: Saturday, September 7 from 11:00 am - 12:00pm
Artistry is excited to exhibit Dan Tran’s exhibition Precarious Equilibrium of Ambivalent States in the Atrium Gallery September 7th through November 3rd, 2024. Tran intertwines his experience as a bioengineer and artist to interpret the world at a molecular level. His geometric abstraction body of works paints a world of dynamic shapes and colors – mirroring the diversity of humankind and the fluidity of the human condition. We look forward to our audiences taking the time to observe his work and find the deeper connections within it.
As Tran says, “The modern world has been shown to be made up of fragments that exist in ambivalent, conflicting states. Quantum physics uncovered atomic components that exist as both particles and waves. Modern psychology investigates elements of the human psyche that war with each other. Contemporary religions, economics and politics underwent seismic schisms. My paintings visually represent such a world, of waves and particles, of moods and psychic energy, of political, economic and social structures in ambivalent states precariously teetering between order and chaos. I am perpetually seeking balance and harmony.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tran was born in Vietnam and now lives in the United States. He worked as a bioengineer for many years. Upon leaving the tech world he returned to his first love, Art. He taught himself painting and photography, both of which have received national and international recognition. In the series Precarious Equilibrium of Ambivalent States, he investigates the impermanence of the physical, emotional and spiritual world in dynamic geometric abstract paintings. Earlier, he responded to the covid pandemic and political turmoil with the series Lost & Found in the Time of INfection, tackling burning issues of the day (climate change, criminal justice, gun violence, etc…) but also celebrating hopeful manifestations of our common bonds (friendship, love, healing, mindfulness.)
